about

Fencebuilding is an eccentric, hard-grooving epic about mending fences with the old man. It starts with the lyric ‘pass me the hammer son’, pays a visit to the Smoke Fairies for a spot of witchy advice and culminates in an ecstatic falsetto to the sound of a man playing a saw.

The track is taken from Rob Marr's second album anatomy, featuring ex-Sly and the Family Stone drummer Andy Newmark. When the pair were first introduced, Andy admitted Rob’s music was ‘not his cup of tea’, before discovering, to both of their delights, that it was an acquired taste.

The record is the result of a two-year collaboration between Rob’s distinctively English piano-led songwriting and Andy’s unmistakable vintage New York grooves. Recorded in a clearing in the clutter of Andy’s backroom, the album observes the comforts of cheering up and settling down (Fat & Happy), details the low-level thrill of gambling in your local newsagent (Scratchcards) and pays homage to London’s most beautiful railway station (King’s Cross St Pancras).

anatomy will be available in early 2012.
